Impact of Medically Tailored Meals on Clinical Outcomes Among Low-Income Adults with Type 2 Diabetes: A Pilot Randomized Trial
Top Things to Know
MTM and MNT can reduce food insecurity among low-income adults with T2DM.
Clinical outcomes such as A1c levels may not significantly differ between intervention and control groups.
This study underscores the need for more comprehensive and clinically integrated interventions to achieve significant clinical outcomes.
Summary of Conclusion/Findings
The study investigated the effects of medically tailored meals (MTM) combined with medical nutrition therapy (MNT) on clinical outcomes for low-income adults with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Participants received home-delivered MTM and monthly dietitian calls for six months. Both the intervention and the control group showed similar improvements in A1c Levels. A significant reduction in food insecurity was observed in the intervention group. Modest improvements in diabetes-related quality of life, knowledge, and self-efficacy were noted.
