HCXF Research Hub

Nearly $1.2 million in planning grants awarded to 12 scientific researchers to create detailed clinical trial protocols focused on developing and testing food is medicine interventions.

The American Heart Association is at the forefront of supporting research that explores the power of food as a cornerstone of health. Our research initiatives are designed to generate robust evidence on the effectiveness of nutrition-based interventions across diverse populations. Through our research hub, we aim to highlight the innovative work of our grantees and provide a comprehensive resource for researchers, policymakers and the public.

The American Heart Association has awarded research grants to fund 23 pilots and 2 secondary data analyses that explore various approaches for how food is medicine interventions can help to treat, manage and prevent diet-related diseases. These studies are critical in generating the evidence needed to validate food-based interventions and inform clinical practice.

Health Care by Food is taking a holistic approach to food is medicine research by incorporating behavioral economics and a collaborative research model for the most effective outcomes.
